SPIRAL DIVE
Let me introduce you to four of the hardest working men in rock.
Collectively known as Spiral Dive, and individually known as Andy on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Tony on lead guitars, Buzz on bass and Mitch on drums. Having formed in 2000, they set out to follow the roots of playing traditional heavy rock.
Whilst other bands follow whatever trend is current, Spiral dive forgo fashion because thats not what good music is about.
Their sound is one of four very talented and experienced rockers playing the style of rock they grew up on. We're talking Black Sabbath and Ozzy, Metallica and the Red Hot chilli Peppers. Other bands try and replicate whatever will bring them the most recognition and ultimately money, not Spiral Dive, they are here because they love music, four real earnest musicians who deserve the recognition, Listen to Andy's vocal style and he will draw you in, with rebel ro using lyrics and a delivery that sends shivers down your spine.
Original lyrics that are credible are hard to find, but this band have them by the album load, (and we're talking four albums to date, with another on the way). complimenting the vocals and rhythm guitar of Andy is Tony on lead guitar, now Tony can play up there with the best of them, his chunky riffs are just right to get you in the groove, then his solos will get you lost somewhere between a rock and a heavy rock place.
He can also give you something that most heavy rock guitarits lack, he puts a lot of emotion into those notes, and it takes their music in a new direction. Keeping the groove tight and getting your head rocking is the bass of Buzz.
There's funk in his style that is reminiscent of Flea of the chillis, whilst there is also a direct link to veteran Rush basisst Geddy Lee, but the phsyical way that he plays wrings every note out of the neck is all his own its like someone strangling a snake, watch him live and you'll see what i mean. Providing the backbone is Mitch, now Mitch is a big bloke and he hits those drums hard, (very hard). Ive seen Mitch almost pass out halfway from a set only to produce a smile and recommence with the devilish drumming.
He has fills and keeps it tight giving the rest of the band the freedom to rock out with a regular and steady musical heartbeat.
So thats the band but what about how they got here?
They have had a long path of prolific hard work, but they've never been in it for the money more the love of the music they play and listen to. They have resisisted the approaches of several record deals in order to remain in control of their destiny, in the early days they went through a skipload of pcs in order to burn enough cds to meet demand.
They are like ambassadors of rock, and this is evident through the festivals they have arranged, the school they formed for promising young bands, and the constant stream of young acts they champion. Having played some 500 odd gigs (they've lost count) to the thousands of people (who have all gone away Spiral Dive fans), ranging from International Speedway circuits to village pubs, it's a wonder if you haven't heard of them yet. In fact one of their tunes was used in an american soft drink ad campaign, and they remain the highest chart position of a British act across the states on a reknowned musical website.
They are sponsored by 'how shall we say this?' a sex toy manufacturer, the only band in history as far as im aware. They were also sponsored by Charlie's Scrapyard who used to help them keep the band's van going with free salvaged parts, and with a hint to the more macarbe side of their music is the fact that an Australian Horror Movie features one of their tracks.
So with no let up in both their commitment to recording new music and also introducing new audiences to their unrivalled style of rock, if you havent before then maybe it's time you had a listen to them too...
